2006 - January
   

January 29, 2006 -- NVFD Rescue 8 was dispatched to Noonday Baptist Church located at 16701 CR 196 on an unconscious person. Upon arrival, the individual was conscious, alert and oriented. The Patient was transported as a precaution to Trinity Mother Francis Tyler by East Texas EMS.

NVFD Runs Major Head-On MVA With 2 Pin-Ins / 1 trauma Code

January 28, 2006 -- Rescue 8 and Engine 1 were dispatched to a Head-On collision located on State Highway 155 South at Loop 49. NVFD Medical Officer arrived on scene En Route to the station. Upon arrival, initial scene size-up showed a 2 vehicle head-on collision with Major damage to both vehicles. 2 occupants were trapped in one vehicle. Rescue 8 deployed extrication tools. Both doors were popped within 5 minutes and both occupants were safely extricated onto backboards and loaded into an East Texas EMS ambulance with 1 firefighter on board and transported to Mother Francis Tyler. Both individuals had serious injuries but not life threatening.
      The occupant of the second vehicle had already been removed from the vehicle and placed on the ground. CPR had been initiated by witnesses to the accident. NVFD Medical officer took command of the trauma code until East Texas EMS arrived on scene. 1 firefighter rode in to assist and Efforts were made to resuscitate this patient while En Route to ETMC Tyler, however, this patient had injuries incompatible with life and later succumbed to injuries at the hospital.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

January 27, 2006 -- NVFD Rescue 8 was dispatched to an Unconscious Diabetic Patient. The patient was determined to be unconscious due to Dangerously Low Blood Glucose Levels. The patient was treated and transported to ETMC Tyler.

January 27, 2006 -- NVFD Brush 6 was dispatched to an Illegal Burn in Pine Trail Shores Subdivision. The homeowner was directed to extinguish the fire and was not cited although a Burn Ban was still in place.

January 27, 2006 -- NVFD Rescue 8 was dispatched to a medical emergency on a patient with breathing difficulties. The patient was Packaged and transported Priority A to Mother Francis Tyler.

January 27, 2006 -- NVFD Rescue 8 was dispatched to a Major MVA on State Highway 155 South in front of Economy Glass and Mirror. Occupants of Both vehicle suffered only minor injuries. 1 refused treatment. The occupant of the other vehicle was transported by ETMC EMS to ETMC Tyler.

January 27, 2006 -- NVFD Engine 1, Engine 2, Tanker 3 and Rescue 8 were dispatched to a 2840 Sq. Foot Structure Fire. Scene size up showed the Garage of the residence was fully involved and heavy smoke throughout the home. A propane line in the garage was fueling the fire rapidly. Propane was quickly turned off from the residence as well as electrical power. Mutual aid was called for at this time from Flint-Gresham Fire. As NVFD firefighters tried to make entry, the roof started to collapse. All firefighters were evacuated immediately from the structure as the fire temperature was to the point of melting the firefighters gear and leading to gear failure. At this point NVFD had to go Defensive. The structure was vented in multiple areas of the roof. The fire spread rapidly and became uncontrollable. ND Engine 1 then put a 4th attack line into action and was able to gain control of the fire and extinguish it. The area was overhauled and all units returned to service. NVFD would like to thank the Flint-Gresham Fire Department for their continuing Mutual Aid.
